Hope can be your light when things feel dark and uncertain.

You just want one room where you don’t have to explain yourself first. Somewhere you can put down the mask and simply be seen.

That's the room we set out to build.

Hope Leads Mental Health Care started with two friends. We’re Joelle and Michael, therapists with eight years of experience each, and we built this practice because we couldn’t find enough spaces that felt genuinely safe for queer, racialized, and immigrant communities.

We came to this work through our own lived realities: Joelle through the systemic and generational barriers Black, racialized, queer, and trans communities carry, and Michael through migrating to Toronto, facing de-professionalization, and learning through years of community work that no matter how hard life gets, we’re still able to care.

Today, we have a growing team of queer and racialized therapists supporting adults and couples across Ontario, people working through anxiety, trauma, burnout, gender identity, and everything that comes with navigating a world that wasn’t built for them. We centre the experiences of communities across the gender spectrum, using anti-racist, intersectional, sex-positive, and anti-oppressive approaches.

However you found us, and whoever you are, this is your community.

We named the practice after the inspirational life pattern of the pink daylily, a flower that survives both flood and drought and still makes room for beauty. It’s the resilience we see in our clients every day.

We believe hope isn’t just something you feel; it’s something you build through intentional action, connection, and care. We don’t try to fix you. We nurture the strengths already in you and help you believe change is possible.

Let us help you make that possibility a reality.

We Believe Therapy Should Be:

Hopeful

We treat hope as a tool you can build, one intentional action at a time.

Caring

We lead with warmth, humour, and care over clout, never influencer energy.

Empowering

We help you find the answers already in you, so you feel less alone in it.

The Pillars That Guide Our Care

  • Building Meaningful Connections
We prioritize real relationships over one-size-fits-all therapy because those who’ve been overlooked or excluded deserve care that treats them as whole people.
  • Embracing Discomfort
We help you navigate the pain that comes from racial trauma, oppression, and moments of being unheard, walking with you toward a more authentic self.
  • Fostering Community Care
We draw on our lived realities as Black and Asian therapists to meet the challenges our communities share, and to grow Hope Leads into a home for care, resistance, and joy.
